It is awesome
Your book, Autograph Hell - I am floored. It is awesome. I had no idea.

You're a great writer and you've organized the topics in a concise clear way for even the most uninitiated autograph collector (like me).

In my opinion, this is an awesome book, and should make YOU quite famous in collector circles.

Autograph Hell is a superb in-depth look
Without question Irion has super impressive knowledge in investigative research and development in the field of collecting. Autograph Hell is a superb in-depth look into the pros, cons, pitfalls and history of collecting. After reading it I think I will stay with fishing and hunting since fish and wild animals don't need to be "Authenticated".

great guide for autograph collector
Just read your book. Great job. You tell it like it is and give good practical advice about what works and make it understandable.

This is a great guide for autograph collector around the globe. People will be better served if they just get your book and realize that they can avoid the pitfalls of this industry.

Learned a great deal from this book
While I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable and savvy autograph collector, I still learned a great deal from this book, most especially the section on authenticators. I found Mr. Irion’s own story fascinating, as well as the history of collecting and forgers.

I really liked the book
You gave example after example and you were spot on. I was very impressed. Well researched. It just kept going and going and touching on all the authentication scams that I was hoping it would. -- Travis Roste, consultant authenticator

Irion reveals a dirty secret
Interesting book. It seems like the autograph hobby is a lot like sports memorabilia one. Charles Irion reveals a dirty secret about the hobby. The authenticators are in most cases just advanced collectors with no formal training. If you get a chance read this book.

accurately states the realities

I am a cardiologist in Boston, and just read your book this weekend. It's terrific, and accurately states the realities of autograph collecting - realities that took me years to realize as well.

I have collected since I was 8 years old (more than 40 years) and bought two high-priced items many years ago that turned out to be forgeries. One was a Daniel Boone document that I only learned a few years ago was a Mark Hofmann forgery - purchased at a Hamilton auction in 1984 and kept as the cornerstone of my collection for years, until I read Simon Worrell's book and realized that my item HAD to be a Hofmann. I found out by writing to Hofmann in prison, and he confirmed it.

Second was the worst Beatles forgery I have ever seen, but I had no idea at the time. I don’t trust anyone but myself; I don’t even trust the big auction houses, and have seen items auctioned by them that I doubt to be authentic.

I still enjoy the hobby, but wont buy anything unless I am convinced it's real, and, like you most likely, I think I am better at this than most dealers out there.

So...great book, great read, and right on target.  Thanks!

Tony Marks
